Why Wine?

“What is it about wine, and why am I so intrigued?

As a chef it is assumed that I have an abundance of knowledge in many culinary aspects, especially when it comes to the subject of wine. Wine becomes an exclusive extension of a unique culinary experience having the ability to transform the palate when paired specifically with cuisines across cultures. My first introduction to the complexity of wine was on a girls trip to the Texas Hill Country in Fredericksburg, TX, known for its wide range of specialty wineries and vineyards in a popular small southern region.

As new wine enthusiasts, we were excited to immerse ourselves in a weekend of just being girls and buying wine. What we didn’t realize is that we would all become wrapped into a world of wonder, wanting to know more about the mystery and magic of wine, and what it would mean to each of us when the weekend was over. I discovered that everyone has a personal palate for what they consider to be their preferred pick of the vine. When it comes to the vine, I realized the complexity of the spectrum of flavors produced from different grape varieties. Not only are there vast selections of varietals available in different regions, the climate, fermentation process, and aging contribute to the overall elegance and experience with each sip.

There is a huge cultural significance and sophistication to each region symbolizing depth in the diversity of fostering new flavors. Winemakers across the world are constantly tempting the taste buds, committed to coming up with signature selections. Being a Chef, I find it fascinating to learn about the process from fruit to final product, and how to curate the perfect combinations. It is through the experience of tastings that I was able to separate the simple from the sensational in my personal quest. I gained an emotional connection to new wine collections, learning to layer my passion for food with love for wine. I find it is a true art form to find the perfect pairing when it comes to fusing flavors. Whether socially, or seriously, wine is meant to be enjoyed in different ways, with an appreciation to the process and the beauty of each bottle. When it comes to wine, learn to let go of prestigious presumptions, plan a trip and pick what brings you joy.
