Living in a small space leaves you to get creative with the space you are given. Sometimes it isn’t clear where to put things that otherwise get shoved senselessly into drawers. I move things constantly to make sense, struggling with keeping my kids’ snack selections together to grab and go. I had some things in different areas of the house because it lacks pantry space. I have to go to one room for chips, and another for other snacks to curate a better-balanced lunch box. I don’t have extra morning time to bounce back and forth, to find food for the day. Our family is always on the go for quick errands, an adventurous outing, or school lunches, so I always have goodies to go with us.
I started looking for other ways that made more sense. Additional storage in an RV can usually be found underneath sofas, including slide-out drawers to secure stuff during travel. Some people store blankets, books, and other miscellaneous items in these spaces. It was a wasted area for most things that could be stored, so I sorted and separated items to make more sense. The way I made it work was to measure out the entire drawer by length, width, and height to allow me to find containers of different sizes. Different sizes will enable me to have multiple containers to fit the space and separate similar items. Now I don’t have to dig, and dread putting together a to-go option when I need it. I started using this simple storage solution for many different projects to put things away and avoid clutter.
Creating sensible solutions allows me to focus on more important things throughout my day. I don’t have the stress of wondering where things are, why I put things in certain places, and how to avoid becoming a hoarder. Whatever brings you peace of mind in managing your space, make it make sense and save your day in some small way.
