Step By Step
Every day, every sunrise brings us to a new place, a purpose in pursuing our path. We never really know what to expect, even with careful planning, our route can be blocked. Even if the road looks clear at first glance, we can encounter unexpected change, which causes a pause in our steps. Sometimes this can discourage us from going the distance we first set out in front of us. In these moments, I have to pick which way to go and whether it is safe to proceed. I have experienced the feeling of being pushed back physically in a way that weighs heavily on my conscience, and I don’t know how to continue. This is when I remember I am still moving with each step, making strides even when I might be forced to pivot. The pivot is sometimes uncomfortable, giving way to anxiety and doubt. It is easy to stop in your tracks to protect yourself from the caution, causing emotions to crash. I have found it is essential to sit in those emotions and reflect on the reality of the situation. That means acknowledging the obvious, obstacles, and how to adjust your approach to the day. It is ok to express your uncertainties, whether within your mind or simply to open up to someone who can help you process what presses on you. You can cling to the chaos or change your mindset immediately. Initially, it seems the walls are closing in, and there is nowhere to turn to move you past what delivers doubt with debilitating discomfort. You will be alright if you are aware of the possibilities and willing to pause, be present, and know how to push back when facing fear. Everyone walks through worry differently, but we can go through it together if we give ourselves grace as we go forward. Regulate how we mend our minds, rest assured in every moment that moves us out of our comfort zone. Being sad or mad doesn’t mean you can’t control the narrative and nurture your not-so-nice days. Waiting for a resolution can be hard, but that is when I like to walk and talk it out to relieve the pressure. Making the time to step out and seek a new solution, a chance to clear my mind and gain clarity. This is how I choose to change how I feel and respond to rerouting the rough things in my life.
